Filming Day 1

Phew. That was fucking intense. Filming Day 1 took place today. Why it's Day 1 and not just Filming Day will become explained shortly. Got up at 10 today to get everything prepped for filming. I hadn't heard back from Sarah or Megan yet, but I wasn't worry just yet. First I had to get everything else prepped. Went down to get the last couple things I needed for filming and tried an alternate means of doing the guts involving panty house and cotton balls. Upon returning, I gave Sarah a call and found out neither she nor Megan could make it. I wasn't panicking yet, since Ophelia had mentioned something about her roommate maybe being able to do it. So I called her up and told her the news. Her roommate was unavailable, so she asked Raye (who's also gonna be in the movie). She didn't have anyone. I tried getting a hold of multiple other people with no go with anyone. Along the way, the alternate guts didn't work so well, so we ran down to George's Butcher Shop to pick up a pound of sausage casings. After getting back and expecting everyone to show up at any moment, I was starting to get pretty freaked. I ran through my AIM buddylist and the day was saved by Dixie, who even though she's never met me and I hit her up with the whole thing with zero notice decided to take a chance and head on over to South St. Pete to slap some zombie makeup on.

So after everyone arrived and we chowed on some pizza, we started in on the makeup. The makeup, I must say, went extremely well. On the last few occasions when this project was trying to get done, the makeup was always pretty lame, which is one of the reasons I was planning on doing this whole thing in one continuous shot (and also cuz I thought it'd be pretty flippin' sweet). This time around, the makeup turned out fantastic. Particularly Dixie's (she was a one-eyed zombie) and Raye's (who was recently dead but had some really cool subtle effects), but to be honest, even the normal-ish zombie makeup looked great.

The main problem came up due to the fact that we had to scramble for the last person and things got off to a somewhat late start. So we didn't actually get around to doing a run through of the script until around 5 and then by the time we started to film, it was dark. We gave it a try anyway and ran through three takes of it. The takes were really good up until the point that something went wrong and the third time we made it all the way through, but the execution of the finale went totally haywire. After that, it was really too dark to try anymore. So it was agreed that we'd get back together next Saturday at 10am and kick some undead ass. Unfortunately, Dixie is gonna be out of town next weekend, so we'll have to find a replacement. Still, her footage and kickass makeup will see the light of day (on MySpace and YouTube as well as the DVD).

SO! Next Weekend! Saturday! 10AM! The Dead Shall Rise! And they shall be pummelled with wrenches... and teakettles...

PostScript: For fake guts, get sausage casings and use an air mattress pump to fill them with air and tie them off, then pour red food dye over them.
